NY-22’s thriving agricultural sector

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) today was appointed to serve on the House Education and Workforce Committee and the House Agriculture Committee. These assignments reflect Representative Mannion’s extensive teaching and organized labor experience and ensures strong support for the Micron project and NY-22’s thriving agricultural sector.  

Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) said, “As a lifelong educator, former union president, and state senator who delivered results and lowered costs for working families, I look forward to championing policies that invest in education, strengthen our workforce, and ensure the success of Micron’s transformational $100B semiconductor facility in NY-22. On the Agriculture Committee, I will work to support New York’s farmers and provide our rural communities with better access to healthcare and broadband while protecting our food supply and advancing child nutrition programs. I’m grateful to the House Steering and Policy Committee for entrusting me with these critical roles.”  

The House Committee on Education and Workforce oversees federal education programs and workforce initiatives, focusing on policies that impact students, educators, and workers nationwide. Representative Mannion’s decades of experience as a science teacher and union president uniquely position him to address the challenges and opportunities in modern education and labor. As a state senator, he secured record funding for workforce development and was instrumental in fostering partnerships that prepared New Yorkers for high-tech careers, including those created by Micron Technologies’ $100B semiconductor manufacturing project located in in Clay, NY, which Mannion represents as part of NY-22. 

Representative Mannion’s appointment to the House Agriculture Committee underscores his dedication to supporting the agricultural backbone of NY-22. The district is home to the New York State Fair and a thriving agricultural sector with dairy farms, apple orchards, and diverse crop production that contribute significantly to the regional economy. As a state senator, Mannion helped vastly expand the free school meals program to nearly every district in New York and led efforts to mitigate persistent flooding in Central New York and the Mohawk Valley. The committee’s jurisdiction includes oversight of farm policy, food safety, economic development, and rural development programs. 

Representative Mannion’s committee assignments will enable him to deliver on his commitment to fostering economic growth, empowering workers, and securing the resources needed to strengthen our communities.
