SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) today released the following statement: The strike on Iran represents a serious escalation—one undertaken without the constitutionally required approval of Congress. Once again, the role of the legislative branch has been bypassed. While Iran must not obtain a nuclear weapon, launching military action without congressional authorization continues a dangerous centralization of power by this administration. I join the majority of Americans who do not support another open-ended conflict in the Middle East.
I commend the professionalism of our servicemembers, who carry out their duties with honor and bravery.
Lasting peace and security will not come through force alone.
Now is the time to pursue rigorous diplomacy and prevent this conflict from spiraling into something far wider and more dangerous.
