Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) Votes No on Continuing Resolution
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) today released the following statement:
“I have a longstanding record of bipartisanship and commitment to working with everyone to deliver for the people of the Mohawk Valley and Central New York.
Speaker Johnson and House Republicans have chosen a different path.
They walked away from negotiations and instead passed a highly partisan spending plan that cedes constitutional powers to Elon Musk and Donald Trump. In a drastic departure from the bipartisan extension passed in December, this is not a clean Continuing Resolution. It slashes support for local law enforcement, medical and agricultural research, and it does nothing to protect other essential programs. It is another example of House Republicans putting Musk and Trump’s billionaire agenda over the needs of working families.
I’m fighting every day to protect Social Security, Medicaid, services for veterans and farmers, and food assistance for children. I want our public schools to thrive and every student to achieve their American dream. I believe that the United States’ government must be a force for good at home and around the world.
I want comprehensive immigration reform, safe communities, lower grocery prices, and to work together to identify and stop wasteful spending.
What I don’t want are reckless policies that undermine the constitution, economic coercion that harms our allies and trading partners, or government actions that cause pain for families and have the country speeding toward a recession.
No one wins in a government shutdown – not Republicans, Democrats, or the American people. But American democracy, the rule of law, and the constitutional order that has served our citizens for over 200 years must be defended. For these reasons, I have voted no on the Continuing Resolution.”
