The Central New York Regional Planning & Development Board’s “CNY Peace Trail” will cover scenic routes through five counties

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) today announced $3.9 million in federal support to establish nearly sixty miles of bicycle infrastructure across Central New York. The funding will help enable the design and engineering of the Central New York Regional Planning & Development Board’s “CNY Peace Trail” that will cover scenic routes through five counties.

Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) said, “The CNY Peace Trail will be a significant quality of life improvement that will connect people to the places they love, build stronger communities, and attract new visitors to NY-22.  I commend the Central New York Regional Planning & Development Board’s thoughtful vision and look forward to partnering on future grant opportunities that will enhance the health, safety, and livability of our communities.”

The CNY Peace Trail focuses on identifying and upgrading bicycle touring corridors, providing safer streets, and enhancing bike facilities. The planned infrastructure will prioritize safety across routes designed to highlight Central New York’s rich history, natural beauty, and vibrant community hubs.

The project spans Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego Counties and will provide local and visiting cyclists with seamless access to the Empire State Trail, strengthening the region’s appeal as a destination for outdoor tourism.

The funding was secured through the federal Department of Transportation’s Local and Regional Project Assistance (RAISE) grant program.
