WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative John W. Mannion today announced that Karin Reeves, a fifth-generation farmer from Baldwinsville, New York, will be his guest at President Trump’s joint address to Congress on March 4.
Ms. Reeves' family operates Reeves Farms, which began in the late 1800’s. Reeves Farm grows vegetables and berries on 1000 acres of tillable land with a seasonal workforce of 80-90 people. They help supply fresh, local produce to most major grocery stores across Central New York. Ms. Reeves also serves on the board of the Food Bank of Central New York and is dedicated to addressing food insecurity across New York State.
Representative John W. Mannion said, “As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I’m excited to have Karin Reeves – a fifth-generation farmer – as my guest for the President’s joint address to Congress. As a farmer and an advocate to combat food insecurity, she understands the critical role that programs like SNAP play in both supporting local producers and ensuring families have access to fresh, nutritious food. I am proud to have her join me as we continue working to stop cuts to SNAP and work on bipartisan policies to strengthen resources for farmers and rural communities across Central New York and the Mohawk Valley.”
Karin Reeves said, “Every day, the Reeves Family works to put nutritious, safe, and locally sourced food on the table for families across New York State. Congressman Mannion understands that programs like SNAP ensure that food is accessible and affordable to those who need it most - especially children - and we must continue supporting local growers and advocating for policies that reduce food insecurity.”
Ms. Reeves’ advocacy aligns with Representative Mannion’s work in the state legislature, where he helped expand the free school meals program, and in Congress on the Agriculture Committee, where he is working to support family farms, rural communities, and increase access to locally sourced food, including for those who need food assistance.
Together, they will use this opportunity to emphasize the urgent need to protect SNAP from proposed cuts and advance policies that combat food insecurity, while also promoting policies that support local farmers and small businesses.
Reeves Farms is recognized as a leader in sustainable farming practices, participating in the New York State Grown & Certified program since 2017. Through the use of Integrated Pest Management, crop rotation, and other sustainable techniques, Reeves Farms has demonstrated its commitment to providing high-quality produce while maintaining environmental stewardship.
