Statement from Representative John W. Mannion on Department of Homeland Security Funding Bill

January 22, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) today released the following statement on the Department of Homeland Security funding bill:

“I cannot, in good conscience, support legislation that doubles down on what is clearly not working and continues to dramatically overfund ICE without meaningful guardrails, transparency, or accountability.

Renee Good should be alive. There are families in Central New York and the Mohawk Valley that have been torn apart. American citizens and people who are here legally have been terrorized by armed federal agents. Congress must confront the politicization of ICE as its tactics and mission grow more aggressive and increasingly at odds with the constitution, due process, civil rights, and the rule of law. This legislation does not do enough to ensure the safety of our communities or reign in this Administration’s efforts to deploy masked federal agents against Americans in their own neighborhoods.

I have a strong record of supporting meaningful investments in public safety, disaster response, frontline workers, and bipartisan homeland security programs. I will continue to champion those priorities.”
