WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) today met with Manish Bhatia, Executive Vice President of Global Operations for Micron Technology, for an update on the company’s $100B semiconductor manufacturing project located in in Clay, NY, which Mannion represents as part of NY-22.

During their meeting, Mannion and Bhatia discussed the transformative impact this project will have on Central New York’s economy and workforce. They reviewed progress on infrastructure improvements, workforce development programs, and supply chain strategies essential to the success of the project. Representative Mannion emphasized the importance of sustaining federal and state investments like the Chips and Science Act and the Green Chips initiative, which have established the foundation for this groundbreaking development.

Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) said, “Bold steps are happening to position Central New York at the epicenter of the global semiconductor industry and secure America’s leadership in advanced manufacturing. I’m excited to continue working with Micron Technology, partners across government, and community stakeholders to   ensure this generational investment succeeds and results in thousands of new, high-paying quality jobs in central New York.”

As a New York State Senator, Mannion was instrumental in advancing the Green Chips legislation, a state-level initiative that complements the federal Chips and Science Act. These efforts helped attract Micron to Central New York, positioning the region as a leader in the semiconductor industry. Mannion also championed significant increases in funding for workforce training, securing more than $5 million to expand apprenticeships and prepare workers for high-skill, high-demand manufacturing roles.

Micron’s commitment to invest $100 billion in Clay, NY, is a cornerstone of the nation’s strategy to onshore critical chip production and strengthen supply chain resilience. The project is expected to create up to 50,000 jobs over the next three decades, transforming Central New York into a hub for innovation and economic growth.
