February 7, 2025

Representative Mannion joined his colleagues to request an in person meeting with U.S. Department of Education officials to discuss proposed plans to dismantle the Department; Members of Congress were denied entry to the building

WASHINGTON, DC – Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) today joined Members of Congress at the Department of Education to demand answers from Acting Secretary Denise Carter on threats from the current administration to illegally dismantle the agency. Earlier this week, Mannion and his colleagues sent a letter to the Department to request a meeting. Mannion and his colleagues were denied entry to the building.

Representative Mannion said, “The Department of Education ensures that every child, including those with disabilities, receive the quality education they are entitled to under the law. But if Trump and unelected billionaires like Elon Musk get their way, our schools will suffer - larger class sizes, fewer resources, and the loss of critical programs. I'm standing up for parents across Central New York and the Mohawk Valley. Parents deserve answers about how these attacks will harm their kids. I will not stand by while the future of our students is put at risk and will fight to oppose any effort to dismantle the Department of Education.”
