Representative John Mannion (NY-22) Votes No on Republican Budget Resolution That Prioritizes Tax Cuts for Billionaires Over the Needs of Working Families

The House Republican Budget Resolution threatens critical services for Americans, including health care for seniors and food aid for children, all to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) today voted no on a highly partisan budget resolution that slashes billions of dollars for programs including healthcare for seniors and food assistance for children and families.
Representative John W. Mannion said, “I voted no on a budget bill that would require devastating cuts to important federal programs – including health care for seniors and food for children and families – so Trump and his allies can cut taxes for billionaires. In my district, hundreds of thousands of constituents would be hurt by these attacks on their health care and food security, all while adding hundreds of billions to the federal deficit. This is partisan policy at its worst and it will cause real pain across America. I totally reject this bill and its objectives.”
All Democrats voted against this dangerous budget resolution that requires broad and sweeping cuts to vital federal agencies that Americans and NY-22 constituents rely on. The bill requires a $330 billion cut from the Committee on Education and the Workforce, targeting free school meals that reduce child hunger, a $230 billion cut from the Committee on Agriculture, forcing cuts to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and an $880 billion cut from the Committee on Energy and Commerce, ensuring sweeping cuts to Medicaid.
