Statement from Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22)

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman John W. Mannion (NY-22) today released the following statement on the Stop Illegal Entry Act: 

“I support giving law enforcement the resources they need to secure the border and go after violent criminals. Unfortunately, this bill does neither. Instead, it redirects taxpayer dollars to house, feed, and clothe people from other countries in American prisons. 

Over the past week, I’ve heard from Central New Yorkers across the political spectrum who have expressed deep concerns about the Administration’s raid at a Cato manufacturing facility — where workers were rounded up and deported to Guatemala without any due process. Now, under this legislation, those same workers could face a lifetime in prison. 

That’s not justice, and it’s not how our taxpayer dollars should be spent.”
