Representative John W. Mannion Announces $500,000 Federal Grant for Brownfield Cleanups and Infrastructure Investments in the City of Utica

October 7, 2026
UTICA, N.Y. – Representative John W. Mannion today announced that the City of Utica will receive $500,000 in federal funding to support environmental cleanup projects and infrastructure initiatives.
Representative John W. Mannion said, “This funding will provide the City of Utica with additional resources to turn vacant sites into safe, productive spaces. This brownfield grant will protect public health, create new opportunities for growth, and strengthen our neighborhoods. I will continue working with our local leaders to ensure our communities get the support they deserve, and I look forward to seeing this project drive lasting change in the region.”
The City of Utica will use the award to conduct assessments, cleanups, and revitalize polluted brownfield areas. These investments will support the local economy, support redevelopment, and protect public health for Utica residents. Utica plans to conduct over a dozen site assessments and hold almost 20 community meetings throughout the process.
The funding was awarded by the Environmental Protection Agency through the Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup Cooperative Agreements. The program provides federal resources to address sites contaminated by hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants and petroleum.
